“I am a globalist and a philanthropist who appreciates the power of vision, both physical and spiritual, to help people attain their best goals. With VisionSpring, I look forward to more visits on the ground with the people we aim to serve around the world to better understand our opportunities and challenges. Each interaction makes it clearer and clearer to me the sheer amount of work to be done and the impact we can have in the world.”

Mike Hundert

Mike has been in the eyewear business as an industry leader for forty years. His family’s business, Rem Eyewear, became a global eyewear distributor serving more than 80 countries before its sale to Italian-based De Rigo Vision Group in 2016.

Mike’s leadership for more than 20 years in the global eyecare community includes his chairmanship of The Vision Council, the pre-eminent optical trade association. Today, he remains on the Council’s Board of Directors, serving as Immediate Past Chairman.

During Mike’s tenure at the Vision Council, he conceived of and led a group of Emerging Optical Leaders, an organization of young executives to foster the engagement and growth of the next generation of leaders in the industry. In addition, he chaired the organization’s annual CEO summit for more than a decade.

Mike is also a “Roving Ambassador” for National Vision, a chain of more than 1000 optical retail locations.

In his free time, Mike is an avid skier and has channeled his love for the sport into advocacy for ski racing. He was a former ski journalist and director of pro ski racing, and today, he is chairman of the Bob Beattie Ski Foundation, a group dedicated to growing the sport through access to skiing for kids regardless of economic circumstances. Additionally, he serves on the board of the International Skiing History Association. When not serving on these organizations, MIke is skiing or mountain biking in the mountains of Colorado where he lives with his wife, Carol, of 38 years. They have two boys, Danny and Kevin.

“I’m a believer in everyone's right to pursue happiness. Vision is a gate to that right. VisionSpring swings open that gate for millions of people, employing its unique concept of sustainable vision care delivery to keep the gate of vision open, along with its opportunities to pursue happiness. It is doable, and Vision Spring is doing it. I’m proud of VisionSpring, and privileged to contribute to the perpetual effort to spread happiness and hope through clear vision.”
