VISIONSPRING’S EYE CARE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
The Eye Care Leadership Council (ECLC) is an exclusive group of optical companies that actively supports and enhances VisionSpring’s innovative work to deliver affordable eyeglasses to communities in need. As part of the ECLC, Council members are at the forefront of their industry, broadening access and availability of optometric products and services in the developing world.
In 2015, the ECLC is helping VisionSpring bring affordable eyeglasses to 900,000 people in the developing world. Through our retail stores, wholesale activities, outreach campaigns and partnerships with NGOs, social enterprises and government agencies, we are reaching people that would not otherwise be able to afford a pair of eyeglasses. This year, we will supply eye care and glasses to people in India, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Sudan and Pakistan, as well as numerous other countries.
VisionSpring relies on the ECLC to help fund our life-changing work and to demonstrate to other donors that we have the support of the optical industry. Having industry support is catalytic; it signals to the world that VisionSpring’s mission of ensuring affordable access to eyewear, everywhere is important to the optical industry.
We invite you to join other industry change-makers including Alcon, National Vision, Essilor, Clear Vision and Zyloware in becoming an ECLC member. Your support will help fund VisionSpring’s innovative work and will demonstrate to the world that everyone deserves access to affordable eyeglasses.
Support levels range from $5,000 to $200,000. As part of the ECLC, you will be invited to a members-only round-table breakfast discussion on eye care in the developing world held yearly during Vision Expo East/West. You will also be listed on VisionSpring’s website and other promotional material as an industry visionary and member of the ECLC.
Founded in 2001 by U.S. optometrist Jordan Kassalow, MPH, VisionSpring’s mission is to ensure affordable access to eyewear, everywhere. We achieve our mission by delivering high-quality, radically affordable, and attractive eye glasses to the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) consumer (people making less than $8/day).
To date, we have conducted vision screenings for more than 5 million people of all ages and distributed over 2 million pairs of affordable eyeglasses. VisionSpring currently operates in two primary markets –India and Bangladesh – and in two dozen additional developing nations through our Global Partnerships program.
VisionSpring is a cost effective, global social enterprise that generates $23 of socioeconomic impact for every $1 invested. Research suggests that a pair of reading glasses increases monthly income by 20% on average. Based on conservative estimates for average daily income in the developing world, VisionSpring calculates the economic impact of each pair of reading glasses sold and multiplies this average increase by the number of eyeglasses sold.
